Here’s the original email sent with subject line of “Interesting Summary of our President”.
should christians respect obama?

dr. david barton is more of a historian than a biblical speaker, but very famous for his knowledge of historical facts, as well as biblical truths.

dr. david barton – on obama

respect the office? yes. respect the man in the office? no, i am sorry to say. i have noted that many elected officials, both democrats and republicans, called upon america to unite behind obama. well, i want to make it clear to all who will listen that i am not uniting behind obama!

i will respect the office which he holds, and i will acknowledge his abilities as an orator and wordsmith and pray for him, but that is it.

i have begun today to see what i can do to make sure that he is a one-term president!

why am i doing this? it is because:
– I do not share Obama’s vision or value system for America ;
– I do not share his Abortion beliefs;
– I do not share his radical Marxist’s concept of re-distributing wealth;
– i do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make $150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since august);
– i do not share his view that america is arrogant;
– i do not share his view that america is not a christian nation;
– i do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;
– i do not share his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our american citizens who need help;
– i do not share his views on homosexuality and his definition of marriage;
– i do not share his views that radical islam is our friend;
– i do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made public);
– i do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system in america ;

– i do not share his strategic views of the middle east ; and
– i certainly do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such as iran .

bottom line: my America is vastly different from Obama’s, and I have a higher obligation to my Country and my GOD to do what is right!

For eight (8) years, the Liberals in our Society, led by numerous entertainers who would have no platform and no real credibility but for their celebrity status, have attacked President Bush, his family, and his spiritual beliefs!

They have not moved toward the center in their beliefs and philosophies and they never came together nor compromised their personal beliefs for the betterment of our Country!
They have portrayed my America as a land where everything is tolerated except being intolerant!
They have been a vocal and irreverent minority for years!
They have mocked and attacked the very core values so important to the founding and growth of our Country!
They have made every effort to remove the name of GOD or Jesus Christ from our Society!
They have challenged capital punishment, the right to bear arms and the most basic principles of our criminal code!
They have attacked one of the most fundamental of all Freedoms, the right of free speech!

Unite behind Obama? Never!!!

I am sure many of you who read this think that I am going overboard, but I refuse to retreat one more inch in favor of those whom I believe are the embodiment of Evil!

PRESIDENT BUSH made many mistakes during his Presidency and I am not sure how history will judge him. However, I believe that he weighed his decisions
in light of the long established Judeo-Christian principles of our Founding Fathers!!!

Majority rules in America , and I will honor the concept;

“Error of Opinion may be tolerated where Reason is left free to combat it.”
–Thomas Jefferson

GOD bless you and GOD bless our Country!!!(Please, please, please, pass this on if you agree)

Below is my response with the sender’s name blanked out for privacy reasons. I have put statements from the original email in italics.

——, my responses are in yellow. If you don’t want to read them and you want to swallow the lies that you are being told, go ahead and ignore it. Your choice.

*I do not share his Abortion beliefs;   Pres. Obama supports Roe v. Wade decision, the law of the land and a compromise between the extremes on this issue. The President has little to no effect on this issue except through judicial appointment, which happens rarely. Under the Republican candidates even if I get raped or if my daughter, God forbid, get pregnant as a result of incest, we couldn’t get an abortion. That is simply wrong and it is an issue that I am willing to fight to death over. Too many women, poor women, die in back alleys when abortion is outlawed. Rich women always have access to abortion, no matter who is in office.
*I do not share his radical Marxist’s concept of re-distributing wealth;  The Pres. is a capitalist in the tradition of all U.S. Presidents before him. A Marxist is someone who believes the government should own all the means of production of goods. This is not the case since the President has not nationalized a single industry during his term. By the way, the U.S. has never had a purely capitalistic society. Our economy is actually a mix of capitalism and socialism…..Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, public schools, the system of higher education, subsidizing farmers, subsidizing the railroads, and various other industries are all examples of socialism and very popular programs that many Americans depend upon to live. In fact, several of the Republican candidates for President have themselves taken advantage of these “socialist” programs. All of which “redistribute” wealth to a certain degree. See my response to the taxing comment below as it relates to this point also. Beware of anyone telling you that ‘so and so is a Marxist or socialist’. They are saying this to scare you and they rarely understand what it means.
*I do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make $150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since August);  The ceiling has not been changed 3 times…that is a lie. From his campaign days until now the President has maintained that he has wanted to let SOME of the Bush Tax cuts expire…those cuts that have been in place for people making more than $200,000 a year. Do you make more than $200,000 a year? Do you even know anyone that makes that much? Do you know what tax rate they REALLY pay? See whenever someone talks about tax rates in the U.S. being too high ask them about the effective tax rate. The effective tax rate is what they really pay. Every study done in the last 50 years shows that the wealthy (anyone making more than $200,000 a year) and corporations pay a lower effective tax rate than the middle and lower classes (ie, you and me). Any changes made now aren’t raising taxes…they will be forcing those who don’t pay enough taxes to pay their fair share. So the money has been actually flowing from the poor and middle class to the rich and Democrats are trying to correct that basic unfairness.
*I do not share his view that America is Arrogant;  The President has not called America arrogant. He indicated that the country, in particular the previous President, behaved arrogantly. Which Pres. Bush did. He treated our allies around the world very poorly and we’ve paid for it dearly. Besides, since when is America perfect? I love my country and would die for it, but that doesn’t mean we don’t behave arrogantly sometimes. Some examples…..You lived during WWII, do you recall the internment of Japanese Americans in camps? That was later shown to be illegal and it had a horrible effect on thousands of American citizens. People died as a result of it and their property was seized by others. Did you know that the US government sponsored experiments on black men in Alabama giving them syphillis and then not treating them until they died WITHOUT ever telling the men that they were experimenting on them? Why do Americans travel abroad but refuse to speak or even try to speak the language of the country they are visiting? There’s nothing wrong with pointing out erroneous behavior. When you tell your kid that they’ve been bad, you aren’t saying they are a bad person, you are saying their behavior is bad. Same thing here.
*I do not share his view that America is not a Christian Nation;  Again, not true that the President said this. What he actually said was this: Obama, June 28, 2006 (as delivered): “Whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation – at least, not just. We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, and a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.” This is a factual statement. Our country consists of all kinds of religions. Thankfully we have freedom of religion and a separation of church and state so that no one religion should ever dominate our country–not even Christianity. These laws protect not only the government from religious influence, but also protect religions from government interference.
*I do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;  We have ended combat missions in Iraq and are trying to end them in Afghanistan. Why do we need a standing military that large? The country’s economy is in a mess and if we want to balance the budget, reduce the deficit and increase jobs, this country has to decide what its priorities are. Keeping a large standing military force and paying for equipment we don’t even use needs to be taken into account. For example the latest fighter plane cost billions and we have NEVER used it and probably never will because conventional warfare is a thing of the past. Warfare going forward will be small companies against insurgents. Fighter jets are for fighting against fighter jets….no military expert anywhere in America believes that we need them anymore. We need to look at for cost savings in the military. That’s just good sense.
*his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our American Citizens who need help;  In the 2 years and 7 mos that Pres. Obama has been in office he has deported more illegal immigrants than Pres. Bush did in the ENTIRE 8 years he was in office. Also, there has been a 55% increase in border security spending under the Obama Administration. Pres. Obama has NEVER tried to give more benefits to illegal aliens than citizens. That’s a lie. And finally, what he actually did was pause the deportation of illegal immigrants to review them for college students without criminal records who have the chance of actually positively contributing to the US (like this kid who was going to Harvard, his parents brought him into the US before he was even old enough to remember There’s no harm in that and if you think there is, then we have to agree to disagree. After the pause, the rest of the immigrants were deported.
*I do not share his views on homosexuality and his definition of marriage;  Pres. Obama defines marriage as being between a man and a woman and that he would find “civil unions’ acceptable as a replacement. However, he doesn’t support a national law about it. He has said let the states decide how they want to define marriage–which is the position of many of the Republican candidates for President. In re: his views on homosexuality in general, he has only said that they ought to be able to serve in the military openly. Most people I know in the military don’t give damn about someone’s sexuality. They only care about how well they do their job.
*I do not share his views that Radical Islam is our friend;  This is a lie of epic proportions. Pres. Obama has NEVER said that radical or extreme Islamists are our friends. He said that moderate and liberal Muslims are our friends. There are almost 2 billion Muslims in the world (about 23% of world population) compared to 2.2 billion Christians (about 30% of world population). Within Christianity there are 38,000 denominations. Some of those denominations support radical, violent agendas–I know it’s hard to believe but it is true. That guy that killed a bunch of people in the Netherlands was a Christian. Would you like all Christians to be labeled as violent and evil because of that one guy in the netherlands or even a group of a few thousands out of the billions of good Christians? No, you wouldn’t. So why would you do that to Muslims? The President thinks we should work with moderate Muslims to weed out the radicals. Again, this is just good common sense.
*I do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made public);  The President’s stated belief is that he is a Christian, believing that Jesus Christ is his Lord and Savior. Any beliefs that he hasn’t made public, aren’t known, so how can this guy be against something he doesn’t know? Completely illogical.
*I do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system in America ;  This is one of the few reasonable statements in his whole email. Okay, so he doesn’t support the changes that the President made. What would this man offer that is different and would help lower costs but cover more people because the over 40 million Americans without coverage are clogging up the whole system. ——, did you know that for a good percentage of my life I didn’t have health insurance and I have been steadily employed since I was 14 years old (except for that brief time in my early twenties)? So you don’t think I should have had health insurance? There are millions out there just like me, ——.
*I do not share his strategic views of the Middle East ;  Another reasonable statement. Again what would he propose that is different?
*do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such as Iran;   The U.S. has supported many different dictators and terrorists. We help put Saddam Hussein into place, even gave him money, weapons and CIA personnel. We helped the Shah of Iran keep power before the current regime and he was a brutal dictator. We accepted Kaddafi in Lybia during the Bush years. We supported Pinochet in Chile under Reagan and he killed over 200,000 of his own people during that time. All of this and much, much more has occurred under previous U.S. Presidents. Pres. Obama is trying to calm Iran down so that Israel and Iran don’t go to war, which would pull everyone else in as well.

I am not even going to bother addressing the stuff at the end of the email except to say that in regards to the Jefforson quote:

“Error of Opinion may be tolerated where Reason is left free to combat it.”
– Thomas Jefferson

This individual [Dr. Barton] used very little reason and instead relied on accusations and religious beliefs which have NOTHING to do with reason and logic and only serve to make voters afraid. Instead of making Americans afraid, we need to educate them so that when they vote, they vote based on facts and their own judgement of those facts. The greatest threat to America today is not Pres. Obama but failing to talk honestly and reasonably about the issues. The biggest threat to us now is the emotional and manipulative nonsense that this man put in his email.
