Despise not one of these little ones

While Americans are going nuts over the not guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony murder trial, I have been mystified as to why that case has garnered such a media frenzy when other equally deserving tragedies get overlooked. Take for example the 2009 murder of 9 year old Brisenia Flores in Arivaca, Arizona.

Brisenia and her father, 29 year old Raul Flores, were shot in their home by invaders in what was meant to look like a robbery.  Brisenia was as innocent as poor 2 year old Caylee Anthony.  Little Caylee didn’t get to choose the mother she was born to–by all accounts the mother, Casey, was a pathological liar, sociopath, and narcissistic, white trash scumbag.  Likewise Brisenia didn’t ask to be born to Raul, a purported drug trafficker according to past DEA reports.  And in neither  instance, regardless of their parents sins or lack thereof, did they deserve to be victims of violence.

The cases are very different as to their circumstances but I would hazard to guess that tens of millions of Americans can recall that duct tape was used to cover poor Caylee’s mouth.  But how many recall that Brisenia’s mother was in the house and was also shot, and had to pretend to be dead to survive.  Why does America care so much about the one case and not the other?

Is it the train wreck of the Anthony family characterized by paternal and fraternal molestation, the mother enabling both the men and the unruly daughter, Casey?  America loves all that is gory and ugly.  We can’t help ourselves….we have to slow down on the highway just to see how bad it is–rubberneckers extraordinaire.   Doesn’t the Flores case offer something similar?  There are the accusations of criminal enterprise against the father, the premeditation charges against two members of local militia that illegally patrolled the border, and the horrible tragedy of what the mother endured.

What could it have been that made the difference in the MSM, as it has in so many other cases of missing, exploited or murdered children?  You be the judge.  Take a look at the photos below and tell me what you think.

Where did the media spotlight fall and why?

I think I know.  I’m waiting to see if the rest of America will notice.  I won’t be holding my breath though.  In case you give a crap, here are the details of the murder of Brisenia and her father Raul…you certainly can’t depend on  Arizona journalists to cover the story properly. Thank goodness for the Internet, eh?

I read about this case a long time ago, in the OC Weekly or the LA Weekly (sister papers of Phoenix New Times), and might have seen the article in the LA Dog Trainer. Frankly, I’d pretty much forgotten about it.

I hate to say it, but the only way Brisenia Flores could have gotten any national (or, apparently, local) news coverage would be to have been born white or with a *ahem* normal last name, like McDonald or Smith. Why that’s so is probably better left unsaid.

Isn’t it insane how the mainstream media hardly even acknowledges even with the potential national angle re: illegal immigration and border security?! I checked and there isn’t any court injunction against press coverage….so I just don’t get it except to say it has to be about the color of their skin. There simply isn’t any other explanation.
