My Thoughts on the Day

  • I like what Jon Stewart had to say last night re: the attack in Tucson. I think others thought it wasn’t strong enough and should have blown the “both sides” meme. I don’t necessarily agree, although I support the view that the both sides meme is complete BS. I still thought there was some good things to note in what he said. I jotted down what I liked the best.

We have been visited by this demon before…it would be nice to draw a straight line of causation from this horror to something tangible because then we could convince ourselves that if we just stop this, the horrors will end…..you cannot outsmart crazy….it would be really nice if the ramblings of crazy people didn’t resemble how we talk to each other on TV…..we haven’t lost our capacity to be horrified. –Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, Jan 10, 2011

  • The love of a mother is truly amazing!!!! One of the victims of the attack this weekend shielded her daughter from Loughner and was wounded three times. Palin take note, that is a true Mama Grizzly.

  • Glocks Are Flying Off The Shelves In Arizona After Saturday’s Massacre by @katyawachtel http://read.bi/h69ohm And 2 politicians say they will be carrying guns from now on, one a Dem (Shuler from NC) and one a Rep (Chaffetz from UT). I don’t blame them, I would too after this incident. I still have my revolver but I’m pretty darn rusty with it and that’s the major problem with most gun owners. It isn’t enough to have one….we should be practicing with it frequently in order to be able to carry it at all.
  • The AZ state legislature passed a law in record time today to prevent the infamous Westboro Church from protesting the funerals. The new law sets up a buffer zone of 300 foot around any funeral home. Legislators have also called for volunteers to line the route for mourners traveling to/from the funeral home so that they can also be protected en route. Some are worried that the law violates the First Amendment. I disagree. They can protest, but not at the exact spot they want to. Govt always has the right to limit location of a protest, but they can’t prevent the protest itself.
  • Sully says Pres. has the opportunity to use trip to AZ as a teachable, non-partisan moment. I say is not in his power to make it non-partisan. It is always in the power of the MSM and their various pundits/lackeys. This assumption that the President can control the national discourse is the same false belief that many on the left make, which has led to the split between firebaggers and other liberals. http://bit.ly/fYrmwU
  • Article about Bonobo sex in the wild gives a new meaning to the cliche: Make love, not war. http://bit.ly/eDGcHM
  • Rush Limpballs is now saying that the Dem Party supports Loughner and wants him to be convicted of a lesser crime. WTF!?! This kind of insanity is exactly what we’ve all been talking about.
  • @bobcesca_go “Stewart’s not especially praiseworthy” //sorta agree, but thought his statement on our capacity to be horrified was important
  • I feel for Loughner’s parents, but I have to ask…how do you not notice your son’s descent into madness? Is it insensitive of me to ask? I ask, knowing full well the toll of mental illness on individuals and families, how it manifests and how it can take a family by surprise. His parents both suffered from illness so perhaps they were so wrapped up in their own concerns they weren’t able to really see or help their son. What a sad situation in all its aspects to contemplate.
