Solar is finally making inroads in the desert

The Federal  Goverment is providing a $1.45 billion loan guarantee to the Solara Generating Station solar-power plant in Gila Bend.  This is a very important step in the right direction toward alternative energy.  http://www.azcentral.com/business/articles/2010/07/03/20100703biz-abengoa0704-ONL.html

Back about 8 years ago I wanted to have a pond in my back yard but I didn’t  want to run an electrical line some 80 feet from the  house to the back corner of the yard where the pond would be.  The ONLY place I could find solar powered pond pumps was in England–of all places!  One of the cloudiest, dimmest place on Earth and here I was in the desert and couldn’t find solar powered devices.

Things have improved a great deal, obviously.  I truly wish I could afford to take advantage of the solar subsidies being offerred now.  To see details of one such deal http://bit.ly/aAfDsH
