Sen. Jon Kyl is the gift that keeps on giving or in this case, taking. According to the Boston Globe, only a few days after Republicans renounced earmarks Sen. Kyl added a $200 million earmark to a bill. The bill was a proposal to settle claims filed by black farmers and Native American tribes. Kyl is claiming it isn’t an earmark but it was slipped in to benefit a tribe right here in Arizona–the very definition of an earmark. This news come from an article in the Boston Globe.

The Pres. needs 67 votes in the Senate to ratify a treaty. Right now the Dems only need a few votes to make that number but after the new year, they’ll need quite a few more. So what does our illustrious Sen. Jon Kyl do? He holds up the vote on the treaty making it less likely to be dealt with this by the lame duck session of Congress. Nevermind all of the former Republican appointed experts on the issue that are urging for its passage. Nevermind the fact that Russia’s nukes aren’t currently being monitored because the old agreement has expired. Nevermind the country being placed in jeopardy for lack of an agreement.
Why would Kyl do this and ignore the obvious reasons to pass the Treaty? Maybe he just wants to get his name in the news as being anti-Obama before 2010….or maybe he wants to use it as a bargaining chip to force Dems to compromise on other issues like DADT, extending Bush tax cuts, etc…..or maybe, all of these reasons. All of these potential reasons indicate that Sen. Kyl is playing politics with a Treaty that everyone agrees is in our national interest and will go along way toward making us safer.
No matter how you look at it, he’s an asshole.
Good gravy! People are lining up to wait overnight for the Sarah Palin book signing tomorrow at a local outdoor mall. It’s pretty cold here (in the 40′s and 50′s at night–not cold compared to the rest of the US but in AZ that’s cold). Maybe the weather will take care of all the loonies that still support Palin in spite of her celebutard ubiquitous presence on TV.
Russell Pearce, architect of SB1070 and other anti-immigrant state legislation such as HB2281 Ethnic Studies ban, has known associations with the NSM, the National Socialist Movement (a neo-Nazi group). The NSM conducted a rally with official permission on Nov. 13th at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Phoenix. An article at Crooks and Liars show Russell Pearce in a photo with the leader of the NSM, JT Ready.
At the other end of the spectrum, a group of undocumented college students held a protest rally Thursday, Nov. 18th. They calmly and peacefully wanted to appeal to Rep. Pearce’s better nature, asking that he support them in their effort to become legal citizens. Specifically they wanted him to support The Dream Act. The students were not allowed in to see Rep. Pearce.
It seems that Russell Pearce makes the time to take photos with neo-Nazis that advocate evil ideas and the basic overthrow of the Constitution, but he doesn’t have the time to talk to peaceful and hard-working college students who love this country and want to uphold its principles.
I have found since I started blogging that there are so many assholes in the grand and dusty state of Arizona. From here on out I will highlight the infamous folks that bring us to the attention of the nation in a not so flattering way. Don’t you think they they deserve there own heading?
